How to Add Emergency Contact Info on iPhone (iOS 15+)

Steps to Set Emergency Contact Using Medical ID

Here’s how to set it up in under 2 minutes:

  1. Open the Health app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Select Medical ID → Tap Edit.
  4. Scroll to Emergency Contacts and tap add.
  5. Choose a contact, then specify their relationship to you.
  6. Ensure the option Show When Locked is enabled.
  7. Tap Done to save your changes.

How Others Can See This on Your Lock Screen

When someone finds your iPhone:

  1. They tap Emergency on the lock screen.
  2. Then tap Medical ID.
  3. They will see your name, medical conditions (if added), and emergency contacts.

This feature can work even if the phone is locked, as long as “Show When Locked” is enabled in Medical ID settings.

Pro Tip: Use Emergency SOS

Apple also offers Emergency SOS:

  • Quickly press the side button 5 times (or press and hold side + volume button).
  • It will call emergency services and notify your emergency contacts automatically.
